Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is with great excitement and honor that I write this letter of introduction to you as the the Middle School Principal. I was born and raised in Santa Fe to the most supportive and loving parents. They were my first teachers who instilled in me the significance of values, education, and the importance of acquiring the skills to become an informed and active participate in my community. These are the same lessons I use to raise my own three children.
I worked at my parent’s jewelry store for 16 years, until my calling to become an educator. I received a B.A. in Elementary Education in 2000 and an M.A. in Educational Leadership in 2011, both from New Mexico Highlands University. I have been in the education field for ninteen years. Twelve of those years have been dedicated to the students of Santa Fe Indian School. I taught 7th-8th grade Language Arts, Computer Applications and served in the capacity of Assistant Principal.
In each of my roles, I strive to ensure the success of each student and the school. As Principal, I plan to continue to focus on student achievement through a holistic approach by ensuring teachers are implementing curriculum in a rigorous manner, that students have exposure to curriculum that emphasizes traditional culture, and that students are being empowered to develop character through the implementation of the SFIS Core Values.
There is strength in numbers, and I strongly believe educating students is a shared responsibility. This year, I look forward to collaborating with staff, parents and community members in developing ways to lead our students to become confident, independent, creative-critical thinkers in the classroom, in the world and in their communities.
As Middle School Principal, my door is always open to address any concerns or to discuss any questions you may have this year. Once again, I feel very privileged and excited to be your Principal, and I eagerly anticipate the start of the 2019-2020 school year. Please stop by the office and say hello.
Sincerely,
Paula S. Chavez-Salazar, MS Principal and MS Dorm Director
