Food Services

 We would like to welcome Robert Abeyta, from the Pueblo of Santa Clara as our new Food Service Coordinator. Robert  has over 8 years of experience working in a school cafeteria setting, and has attended several training in regards to the National School Lunch Program and the Seamless Summer Option. Robert is also ServSafe certified and a ServeSafe certified instructor. 

Farm to School 

We would like to welcome Kevin Beltran, from the Pueblo of Zuni as our new Farm to School Coordinator. Previous work experience includes working with the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center Education Department and having the opportunity to create a student curriculmn focused around the center's Resilience Garden and Museum. Kevin is also part of a collective of young farmers who are working to maintain farming and seed sovereignty traditions within their respective communities. 

HIGHLIGHTS: 

 SFIS meeting with Senator Martin Heinrich - On January 20, 2022, SFIS Superintendent Abeyta, Student Wellness Department Director Maria Brock, Farm-to-School Coordinator Kevin Beltran and FoodCorps Member Jennifer Hill met with Senator Mark Heinrich to discuss the schools Farm-to-School Program/initiatives along with the important working being down by the language instructors to retain and highlight our Native Tribal Languages present here on campus. (further details:  https://www.sfis.k12.nm.us/farm-to-school).

Middle School Garden Expansion- The expansion of additional land use will allow us to continue in the agricultural education programming for our Middle School students. This programming has been a collaborative effort between FoodCorps, different school departments such as Student Wellness– Farm to School Program, Middle School CBE and Special Education classes, Food Services and Facilities Dept. The staff from all these different departments have been key supporters of this project and have provided labor and sharing of their technical skills and cultural knowledge with our students. SFIS COUNSELING CENTER  

A healthy and well student is a student who can focus on their academics and achieve their goals in life.

HEALTH CENTER —would like to introduce you to the new Supervisor School Nurse, Helene Quintana, RN, BSN from Cochiti Pueblo, she joined SFIS November 2021. We are honored to have her onboard and her leadership in teh Health Center.
